Lets talk music.
Have you ever wondered how would our lives be without music? Music
is food for the soul and has been a great deal of my life since I can remember.
If music was something one can eat what would it be? a chocolate, cake or nutritious
food? Whatever you decide it remains
music and at times a panacea to discomfort, unhappiness, loneliness .Music is
not just a vehicle for expression but a way to mobilize and inspire people to
think differently and take action.
Sounds never evoke the same emotions in different people,
thus a comprehensive and universal definition of music is non-existent. Music
has long been an expression of people from different cultures around the world. No
matter how music may differ in different parts of the world, it seems that
music serves a general common goal which is to bring people together. If you happen to look for talent, let me tell you where you will get an
abundance of that, in Eastern Cape the home of legends. This province is known
for producing the best quality of musicians like the late Stompie Mavi ,Sizwe Zako, Siphokazi, Zonke, Simphiwe
Dana and Zahara to name a few. There’s an under-appreciated wealth of talent in this region and as we go along in this blog
I will reveal the superior quality of talent that is hidden in this province. As
an artist myself, I’m very proud to be of this province that is slowly growing .Yes
you heard me right I said “slowly”. In 2006 we’ve seen the establishment of the
Eastern Cape Audio Visual Centre which aims to develop and empower artist from the Eastern Cape. The
establishment of this Centre is to rid the notion and perception that in order
to be successful in the music business you need to be in Johannesburg. We also
heard that there’s new office of SAMRO to be opened in the Eastern Cape.''The days of music composers and authors in Nelson Mandela
Bay and the greater Eastern province spending money on travel between Eastern
Cape and Gauteng to inquire about their royalties and related matters will soon
be a thing of the past, thanks to the hard work by Nelson Mandela Bay
Municipality Film and Music office, South African Music Rights Organisation
(SAMRO)will officialy open a satellite office in Nelson Mandela Bay”
As we are going towards the festive season, we are exuberantly
waiting for what our brothers and sisters have been cooking for us. Hopefully
we are getting something from the Eastern Cape. Let the music play!!
